Christmas Sherry Trifle Recipe
At Christmas time, sherry trifle is the ideal companion dessert to Christmas pudding. Sherry trifle recipes went out of favour but for many people, this recipe will resurrect old Christmas memories when sherry trifle was de rigueur. This sherry trifle recipe should be made on Christmas Eve.
Christmas sherry trifle recipe ingredients
1 Jelly β flavour to taste
1 pint thick custard
6 trifle sponges
Jam similar flavor as jelly
1 tin fruit cocktail 400g (smaller if less fruit preferred)
1 pint whipped cream
Choc chip pieces to decorate
Recipe method for Christmas sherry trifle
1 trifle bowl approx 3β deep and 8β wide
Divide sponges in half and lather with jam
Place around base and sides of bowl jam face down
Chop jelly into small pieces, place in a jug adding half pint boiling water, stirring till jelly is dissolved
Add ΒΌ pint of sherry to the jelly and pour mixture over sponges
Now add custard in circular motion followed by drained fruit cocktail pieces spread evenly over the sherry trifle mixture
Cover and leave overnight in fridge to set
Add whipped cream and choc decorations to sherry trifle just before serving.
